It is customary to recite this psalm before Baruch Sheamar and it is good to recite it in the form of a menorah and it is considered as if we had lit the menorah at Bet Hamikdash, and it is a segulah to have a successful day. The number of verses corresponds to the number of branches of the menorah and the number of words to the components of the menorah, i.e. 49. The Hida and others even recommend reading it on a parchment.
The Hida reports that this psalm was inscribed on a gold plate carried by King David on his shield when he went to war, and that David thought about the deep meaning of this psalm and won his wars.
Some books recommend reading it even outside of morning prayer.
Some write it on a parchment and place it on the door of the holy ark on the inside, as a segulah to protect the community. The Ari zal says that recitation protects from epidemics and bad decrees
