The durable choice

Why choose Gassot Tefillin?

Gassot Tefillin are distinguished by their boxes, known as batim, which are molded from a single piece of thick cowhide. Unlike Dakkot or Peshutot models, which are made from thinner leather or several assembled pieces, Gassot Tefillin provide greater resistance to impact, wear and moisture.

They retain their square shape — the ribua — for longer and can be repaired when necessary. They are a long-term investment in a mitzvah performed each day with peace of mind, beauty and respect for halakha.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before choosing

What are Gassot Tefillin?

The term “Gassot” comes from the Hebrew word גסות, meaning “thick.” Their boxes are crafted from a single piece of thick cowhide. This demanding manufacturing process produces strong, durable and repairable batim that can retain their square shape for many years.

What is the difference between Gassot and Peshutot?

Gassot batim are molded from a single piece of thick leather. Peshutot batim are generally made from several pieces of thin leather joined together. Gassot are therefore stronger and better suited to long-term daily use. However, the quality of the parchments must always be assessed separately.

How should I choose between Rashi and Rabbeinu Tam?

Rashi Tefillin are the Tefillin worn daily by every Jewish man from the age of Bar Mitzvah. Rabbeinu Tam refers to an additional pair worn according to a second halakhic opinion. Rashi is generally chosen for a first pair or for a Bar Mitzvah. If you are unsure, please consult your Rabbi.

How long do preparation and delivery take?

Preparation takes 6 to 8 business days. After dispatch from Jerusalem, delivery generally takes 10 to 15 business days with Colissimo, or 2 to 5 business days with DHL Express. These timeframes are provided as estimates and may vary depending on the destination and local customs procedures.

How are the parchments inspected?

Each set undergoes a triple inspection: two computer-assisted scans followed by a complete proofreading by a qualified Rabbi specializing in STaM. A computer inspection certificate is included with the order.

What is included with my order?

Your pair is supplied with its straps, a velvet bag, black protective cases and the computer inspection certificate for the parchments.
